Some pieces are born from a sketch; others are born from an obsession. First brought to life in 2015, the Spirit Dress wasn’t just a garment – it was the manifesto for everything we’ve built since.
THE MONTH OF CREATION
Back in 2015, YVY's Founder & Creative Director, Yvonne Reichmuth, spent an entire month in a state of "creative fever". The goal? To push the boundaries of what leather could do. The Spirit Dress is a labor of love in its purest form. It took 50 hours of meticulous handwork to complete. Every single leather piece was individually hand-cut into its specific geometric shape before being assembled, piece by piece, like a complex, wearable puzzle. "It's not just a dress; its over 50 hours of heartbeat and hand-cut precision."
FROM THE SCREEN TO THE SANCTUARY
The world first took notice when the Spirit Dress, among other YVY pieces, made its high-octane debut in the Calvin Harris music video, My Way; but its journey didn't stop there. First presented at Berlin Fashion Week in 2015, the dress was immediately recognised as a masterpiece of Swiss craftsmanship and a nod to contemporary leather design. Recently, the Spirit Dress was officially acquired by the Museum of Design in Zurich (Museum für Gestaltung Zürich) for their permanent collection.
THE BLUEPRINT FOR A DECADE
If you look closely at our current and past collections, you will see the DNA of the Spirit Dress everywhere. The precision of the hand-painted edges, the specific thickness of the vegetable-tanned leather, and the play between skin and silhouette all started here. It was the technical "Masterclass" that Yvonne set for herself in 2015, proving that YVY could handle the most complex couture-level challenges while remaining wearable and fierce. Because the Spirit Dress is a bespoke, made-to-measure masterpiece, the journey of owning one begins with a personal consultation. This ensures that the hundreds of hand-cut pieces are scaled perfectly to your unique proportions, maintaining the architectural integrity of the design.
